14868 2001-07-02 20:47:00 I have recently upgraded to a Gigabyte GA-Z7M M/B with 850 mhz Duron running WinMe. The two issues are sound and modem. The board has on board AC97 audio and even with specific WinMe drivers, the O/S does not see the device. I can install it manually but in the Control Panel / Sounds and Multimedia Properties / Audio Tab, there are no devices to choose from. As an exercise I installed NT and Win95 and both these O/S's picked the correct device and I had sound.
The Modem problem with WinMe is simalar. I have a brand new Conexant Voice Modem, soft-modem. Winme picks this up O.K and installs it on COM3 and loads the drivers, but I cannot get a connection. When I dial up my ISP,'xtra' it dials the number OK but I get the following error, Error 645.
The Microsoft Dial-up Adapter is not installed or not responding properly. In the network section of the control panel, remove the driver and then add it again.
Well, when I go to the Network section, there's nothing in the adapter section, so there's no driver to remove. Using NT or Win95, the O/S's did not pick up the modem at all, and I was unable to install it manually.
Please help, I'm getting withdrawl symptoms from not Net access for two weeks and no sounds from my Computer.

14869 2001-07-03 03:40:00 hi Nick,
try configuring your system without the modem installed, and the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS. Once your system is configured and you are sure you have the latest motherboard drivers installed, add the modem. Obtain proper ME drivers if you can, not just 9x ones. Error 645 is an 'Internal Authentication Error' if that helps in any way.

As for the sounds, enable it in the bios and hope it's autodetected on the next restart. Get the latest AC97 drivers too.
good luck
