Check in the Device Manager to see that there are no problems with your CD Drive: 1) Right mouse click on 'My Computer', select Properties. 2) From the dialog box, choose 'device manager' tab, and double click on the 'CD drive' icon. 3) Select your CD drive and press the 'Properties' button. 4) On the 'General' tab there should be a 'Device status' panel telling of any issues with your CD drive. If there are some, note them down, and what settings are selected on the 'Settings' tab. If all appears fine, then go on to: 5) Click 'OK' to return to the device manager. Your CD drive should still be selected. Click the 'remove' button. A warning message will display. Acknowledge this by pressing 'OK'. Your machine will then say that to update the changes it needs to restart. Acknowledge this too ['OK']. 6) On restarting, your machine should find the cd drive again. Check the device manager to see if it has reappeared there. If it has NOT, then check all the cables and restart. If it is still not found, then you could also check that the BIOS is looking for it. By the way, does it fail to find ALL TYPES of cd's (data, audio/music, rewritten) and multiple ones of each type, or are there just a couple of cd's you have tried? |
