| 14810 | 2001-07-01 14:54:00 | my computer is getting really slow at starting up sometimes upto 5mins, when it runs its bearable but often just shuts down for no reason. I defrag weekly and scandisk at same time, I wonder if it is just too old (4yrs) or too full, i don't think either but maybe i'm wrong. i regulary update virus prog etc. any ideas where to start looking? running P166 & 128mb ram 8gig HD |

| 14811 | 2001-07-02 09:05:00 | sounds like it could do with a clean up. clean out the startup of any unnessary apps. give the registry a good scrub. u can use apps like nortons systemworks, regcleaner, adaware, systemmechcanic and other ulities to do it 4 u. just basic housecleaning really. | Guest (0) | ||
| 14812 | 2001-07-02 09:39:00 | I've got similar older system and have found that the 'modern' virus checkers tend to slow things down quite a bit. May be the problem with yours. I turn off system realtime scanning when not on web or opening files from disk etc. Found using AVG free checker the worst for slowing things down and have gone back to using MacAfee. |
