14798 2001-07-01 10:15:00 I have a PC running windows ME and have just purchased 'Need for Speed High Stakes'
The game loaded fine but when I go to 'play' it asks me to insert the game disk. The Game CD is in the drive when it asks this and will not go past this request. There is no area to enter a drive letter from where the game is to run in the load procedure.
Has anyone struck this problem. Could it be that it was not designed to run on ME? The quoted operating system on the game box is 95/98.
Any help appreciated to help me with my expensive 'lemon'

14800 2001-07-01 20:09:00 Thanks Jess. That site gives the problem but couldn't see a fix for it anywhere?? Guest (0)
14801 2001-07-01 21:33:00 Make this the shop's problem.
Either they email the game manufacturers for a fix or give you your money back - simple. Clearly you have not received what you've paid for.

14802 2001-07-02 09:04:00 hi Lisa,
there is a patch to upgrade to version 4.50. Go to {http:\\www.needforbetterspeed.com}, it's a link on the right hand side of the page. This may get it going on your computer. It's hard work to get a refund on opened software.

14803 2001-07-02 11:20:00 Thank you for all your help. I got the answer from the Roadshow Entertainment people in the finish. One of the many 'fixes' they suggested was to close down all applications running in the background from start up and by a process of elimination I found that 'Keyboard Maestro' my Multimedia Keyboard Driver was the culprit. - it was hogging the CD drive! Easy fixed and game now starts fine with this disabled.
Thanks once again
