| 14928 | 2001-07-03 10:53:00 | I have a p120(vintage) that has developed an odd problem. I can access bios and use the keyboard in Dos mode but when I get to the gui I lose the use of Keyboard and mouse. The system has not hung as the clock is ticking over and the screen saver still fires up but I cant do owt else. I have checked Bootlog.txt but can't find anything there that appears to be significant. HELP!!! |

| 14930 | 2001-07-03 20:35:00 | No I cannot use mouse or keyboard in Safe Mode either. I swapped hard drives with another machine and it worked fine. I put the other hard drive, win98SE, in to the P120 and got exactly the same problem. I thought there might be a physical problem with the motherboard but as I can access the bios and dos mode that appears to be elminated. I am stumped. I have had alook at start up folders and emptied that, checked through the sysini & win.ini files but could not find anything significant. MS Knowledge base doesn't seem to have anything that comes close to this...=) |

| 14931 | 2001-07-04 07:43:00 | If you can use it in dos the hardware is OK. If it will not work in Safe Mode there is corruption to the registry that is unlikely to be fixed by a reinstall. A complete format and reinstall is sounding likely | Guest (0) | ||

Well I am having the same problem with Win98SE and everytime you reboot or shutdown and restart the computer you have to make sure you press F8 and get into safe mose and delete them both out of device manager, so that when you restart from safe mode you have them both working. What a real hassle. There must be someone out there who has the correct solution. Reinstlling Windows98 did not solve the problem. I have gone through 3 years of PC world magazines and can't find anything in them either. | dmlyn (297) | ||
