14923 2001-07-03 09:40:00 Is ther any way that I can format my disk because courrently i have a no softwares but has some files (I don't have windows or anything). I have tried under C:/ typed 'format' but this does not work. I wish to clean out the hard disk COMPLETELY. What commands can i type to do this? Guest (0)
14924 2001-07-03 10:44:00 just typing format wont work, you need to type the drive letter as well so its 'format c:' but make sure you want to do this as the drive will be wiped clean, also it pays to have a bootdisk you can boot off with cd-rom drivers if you have one so you can install windows off a cd-rom.
Another way if you have a working boot disk is to boot off it then when you get to the a: prompt type 'format c: /s' - it will format the hard drive and make it bootable.

14926 2001-07-04 06:42:00 Just goto the bious setup and see if it supports cd-rom boot.

If it does u can ignore the fact of making a bootdisk with cd drivers.

If it does just restart ur PC with the win cd in and it would boot ok. U may like to test this first cos win95 upgrade cds which i have does not boot whereas win2000 student version upgrade does boot...

DELTREE /Y *.*
in the root of the drive.
