Recently a friend came to stay and brought his pc and I went and replaced my flakey 10Mb network card, he brought his cat5e crossover cable and we set up a net for playing games, just as we've done for a few years. but this time when I dialed up to the internet I could not brose any pages. IE5 sad dnserror and Netscape said it was unable to create a socket connection. I tried editing tcp/ip settings and even got to the point of removing all protocols and clients and rebuilding with just the modem-tcp/ip-client in the network setup but nothing worked and I had to blat large portions of windows and re-install all my programmes. Does anyone know of a less drastic fix for this problem?
I am not installing the network card drivers yet. |

Is ur friends comp still connected to urs?? Last time I had this problem, it was caused by installing internet connection sharing while the other comp is on. So make sure when u install ur network protocals the other comp is off. |
