15149 2001-07-07 06:10:00 Boot to safemode and try running defrag there. Guest (0)
15150 2001-07-07 08:34:00 Same problem myself on someone else's PC, solved it by going to Close Program (press Ctrl-Alt-Del once) then systematicly ending one program a time, starting Defrag again until it worked.

Turned out some program was working away every 2-3min preventing Defrag working.

15151 2001-07-08 03:11:00 A program is working in the background probably a firewall or an Anti-virus progam. Many anti-virus and firewalls will not allow another program to write to the hard drive which technically is what defragging is.
Close all programs on the system tray beside the clock. Then hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete ONCE only. In the popup window 'End Task' every program except Systray and Explorer. Check at the end that all the programs have in fact closed. Some need to be end tasked twice. When only Systray and Explorer are left, close the window by hitting 'Cancel' and run defrag. Should run with no problem.

15152 2001-07-08 07:22:00 Had the same problem myself. In addition to closing down programs running in the background, you may also want to make sure that your screen saver is turned off. When this kicks in, it can also cause interruptions when trying to defrag. Guest (0)
