| 15137 | 2001-07-06 14:39:00 | Since I upgraded to Internet Explorer 5 I have experienced several instances where web sites I have visited have (unknowingly to me) changed browser settings without my permission. These include: * The start page that IE opens first (typically changed to a search engine, example: BessyBug and GlobalSearch) * The search page in IE. For example at the moment it has been set by a website to www.globesearch.com I used to have Copernic installed which had its own search page, one day a few months back i opened the search page and found that the search page had been changed to one from another site. * The window title. A junk e-mail I opened in Outlook Express (NOT an attachment) caused an IE window to open, next time I opened a browser window the window title had changed. When I searched the registry I found the following key had been changed: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main WindowTitle value contains ???????????? - ???????? Flash ???????? ?? ????????http://chinaprogramer.com ?? * Some sites have added Favourites to themselves into my favourites folder, without permission. I am extremely upset that these websites can seemingly walk all over my PC without permission. The computer has just had Windows reinstalled from scratch (95 OSR2) with IE4.01 and then IE5.5 installed, the latter from one of your CDs. |

| 15138 | 2001-07-06 22:26:00 | I know that it is hard to believe the people who tell us to avoide sites like this, I have been there myselfe, but staying away from such sites is the only alternative... unless you can persuade Microsoft to produce the kind of software that everyone thinks they should.
