15331 2001-07-10 11:55:00 I had Win2k Professional installed, and my documents partition formatted in NTFS. I had compression enabled, and also had all of the folders accessible only to administrator (My login). I recently installed WinXP beta2, and have found my documents partition unreadable. Partition Magic gives me cryptic errors, Comp Management tells me that it is in RAW format and needs to be formatted, yet when I was trying to install XP (through a few trials and tribulations) I could login to my Win2k drive (through XP's install prog dos prompt) and I could view the contents of the Documents partition.
I would like to know how I can, if I can get the contents of my Documents partition, as it has over a gig of Mp3s I've downloaded.
Any Help would be appreciated,
Thanks

15332 2001-07-11 07:44:00 What a problem. Can you copy the contents in pure dos
probably copy32 /? too find out how. If your worried about lossing long file names in stall len driver for dos. If you don't feel confident with dos commands get a copy of drive image pro and make a (supposilly) perfect copy of the ntfs partition in dos mode. Then from xp or 2000 use the drive image editor to extract those contents from the image you created into a new drive of your choice.
What is the format of the xp drive. you might want to try restoring the master boot record of your hard drive as a last resort. really need more information too make better gueses.

15333 2001-07-11 11:14:00 No, in pure DOS I couldn't even read the drive, it had to be done under the XP Installer 'Recvoery Console', which only allowed copying of 1 file at a time.
BUT!! I actually fixed it today. I found that when I right clicked the dirve and brought up it's properties, in teh Security tab, there was no *Current* Administrator permissions for the drive. So I made up some new permissions, and Whalla! The only problem now is that I can't change the label!
Thanks for the suggestion
