| 15302 | 2001-07-10 09:00:00 | I am running Widows ME and when I boot up the computer the wallpaper and desktop appears OK then it tries to access the empty floppy drive for about a minute, freezing the mouse at the same time. I have checked for programs running in MSCONFIG (startup) to see if any programs are trying to access this drive but no luck there. I have checked 'Add/Remove' programs to see that there aren't any programs that shouldn't be there but nothing there either. Has anyone got any idea what the problem could be? |

| 15304 | 2001-07-10 11:14:00 | Thanks tweake's - I thought about that but could not see where that is set. I have Norton Anti Virus..where do you check this?? | Guest (0) | ||
| 15305 | 2001-07-10 12:28:00 | ...the following 'tweak' works in Win98 and may or may not offer a solution to your problem: Open the System Properties Box [either through Control Panel or right-click My Computer] and then go > Performance Tab > File System > Floppy Disc. Uncheck (disable) the box marked 'search for new floppy disc drives each time your computer starts'. If prompted, restart your computer. NOTE: this will not disable your ability to reboot from a floppy disc in the event of a system crash or failure. In answer to your question regarding Norton Anti Virus, open the 'options' tab on that utility and click open the 'Startup' tab: you have a choice of what to scan - as well as some bypass option/s keys. Good luck e_ |

Common places where programs are requesting the A:\ include: The 'Document History' area - Star\Settings\Taskbar & Start Menu\Start Menu Programs, and in the Documents Menu area click the 'Clear' button. Also check your 'Quick Launch' folder where programs sometimes add shortcuts. It should be located about here - C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch. |
