15267 2001-07-09 18:10:00 whenever I scan a picture or import a .bmp file into Paint in order to work on it, the end product would print at something like 0.6 x 1.0 METRES. Can anyone please tell me how I control the picture size ?? Guest (0)
15268 2001-07-09 21:38:00 Are you talking the microsoft paint program? because firstly I wouldn't be using that for picture editing as its fairly basic and devoid of any decent features.
But if your scanning in then your scanning program should have a scale button or something to adjust the final image size.
BMP files tend to be pretty big in size too, you might be better off converting them to JPG or TIF.

15269 2001-07-10 05:52:00 Mark S: Thanks for that - yes - it is microsoft paint - it actually does all I need for this project. When I tried the scale buttons, it seemed to crop rather than shrink - very confusing.
What do you recommend for software for writing and drawing over a scanned picture (ex Mirascan)??
Cheers.

15271 2001-07-11 02:58:00 You can use 'brain-dead' Paint to re-size by going to the Image menu and selecting Stretch/Skew and enter a % of reduction.

Then you can re-save the image by changing the extension, e.g. it defaults to image1.bmp so change it to image1.gif or image1.jpg

PaintshopPro is a cost-effective solution that will not dent your wallett too much... about $100 I think

15272 2001-07-11 21:16:00 when scanning, reduce the resolution to somewhere around 100dpi. Your monitor & printer will not show any noticable reduction in quality. Guest (0)
15273 2001-07-13 22:57:00 Paul: Thankyou very much - you have provided me exactly the answer I needed!! It works like a dream, and this 'brain-dead' programme now does all I need very easily (superimposing data on a LAS map)

Maybe I'm a bit 'brain dead' too - it never dawned on me that 'stretch' could be made to 'shrink' !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again.
