15530 2001-07-14 22:11:00 Recently updated the modem in a friends computer when I noticed the cable from the inside of the case to the motherboard (has onboard video) had burnt out. Help me, need to find replacement part very soon, also have popped a new PCI video card in and it loads the windows start up screens ok but then it just goes all screwy. What do I Do? Guest (0)

if it's a common clone a decent computer store should be able to supply you with one, or at least order one in. If you are competant with a soldering iron you may be able to clip the plug onto a new piece of ribbon cable and solder the other end into the VGA socket, just be sure to wire it the same as the previous one. Regarding the PCI card, I suggest you type the motherboard model number into a search engine to find a manual. There will likely be a jumper to disable the onboard video, the manual will tell you. Remember to start windows in safe mode, and delete the old driver out of device manager, so the new card can be detected. If windows doesn't have a built in driver for the card you may need to get this off the net too.
