| 15522 | 2001-07-14 12:50:00 | I own a 5-year-old 2gig hdd and there is bad sector of 9.9megs. And ever since then, i think my computer has slowed down. how can i remove bad sectors? or do i need to buy a new hdd? |

| 15523 | 2001-07-14 13:04:00 | If you reformat the drive it will test the bad sectors, but they probably wont be fixable. If you are getting more bad sectors then your hdd is dying, 5 years is an average life for a hdd, and it sounds like it hasn't had an easy life and I would recomend replacing it. Regarding the speed, just a guess but the drive might be slow as it has to work around the bad sectors as they are in a frequently accessed place. |
