15651 2001-07-17 01:52:00 I have an HP deskjet 670c printer, and about three months ago I ran out of black ink. In the interim I have misplaced the color catridge as well. I recently purchased a black cartridge and upon installing the new one, the printer told me the heads needed to be aligned. I tried to do this but it will not work without a color cartridge which I do not have.
I never use the color anyway, and any attempt to print without aligning the heads results in a very messy and useless print job.
Is there any way I can work around this lack of cartridge so I do not have to purchase a $95 cartridge that I will not use enough to make it worthwhile.

15652 2001-07-17 05:06:00 HI Craig

I know this is simple but you may not know how to do it (excuse me if you've tried it already).
Go to Start-Settings-Printers.
Right-click on your printer, then click on 'Properties'.
Among the settings should be something that says 'print in greyscale'or simliar.
I had the same problem on an HP deskjet and by taking the 'tick'off that setting it should go only using your black cartridge.

15653 2001-07-17 05:22:00 Yeah, I can print in greyscale ok but the printers heads need to be aligned and this will not work without both cartridges installed. Guest (0)

15656 2001-07-18 02:23:00 ...many thanks Craig for bringing to light that small (but potentially debilitating) problem with regards twin ink packs on the HP Printers.

Like yourself I rarely use the colour and would probably have discarded the current cartridge also when it was empty.

Pleased to see some kind soul has offered to send you an empty one as a workaround.

Cheers !!!
