15931 2001-07-21 16:34:00 Hi,

I have an external parallel bay for CD-Rom with Wearnes CDD-820 in it and I would like to use it on my Laptop since it hasn't CD-Rom.
CD-rom working fine when is in my desktop and external bay pass signal to the printer when is connected
(LPT1 -> parallel cable -> external bay -> parallel cable -> printer)
When I run 'Add new hardware' wizard, CD-Rom in external bay response for a second (Probably start's handshaking) but wizard on the end couldn't find it.
When I play an audio CD the external bay pass the audio signal out through audio line on the back of the bay.
OS on the laptop is Win98SE which automatically recognize CD-Rom when is installed on the desktop (win98SE as well)

Do I need to specify somewhere that there is CD-Rom on the LPT1?
Or do I need specific driver to perform handshaking with external bay over parallel port?

Thanks

15932 2001-07-22 00:20:00 hi Dejan,
I don't know anything about cdrom drives configured in this fashion, but I can suggest you check in you Laptop's BIOS/Hardware Configuration Util, that the Parallel port is set to ECP not Bidirectional.
If it is already, then it couldn't hurt to try it the other way round. Some cannon printers require the bidirectional setting.

15933 2001-07-22 02:59:00 There is one SMALL problem.
Since the Laptop that I have is second hand - BIOS is password protected and I can't get in!!
Is there way to disable password protection in the BIOS?

15934 2001-07-22 08:50:00 Hi Dejan,I recently setup an external parallel cd-rom (para 525 & mitsumi quad speed cd-rom).
Running the add new hardware wizard did not detect cdrom,So i found & installed drivers for the Para 525 & when i rebooted the cd-rom was accessible.
this is what you may have to do. cheers Steve

15935 2001-07-23 01:17:00 Para 525?
Is that the manufacturer name of external bay?
If that so, I do not know manufacturer of mine - there is nothing on the box, and I can't find the correct driver for it.

I am playing with BIOS password - I will reply with any results.
