16067 2001-07-24 10:24:00 I have a HP Vectra XM series 4
Pentium 166.
The monitor is an Olivetti
DSM 27-140LE.
My problem is that I cannot get the monitor resolution above 640 x 480. I have 2 of these monitors - both work fine with an old Olivetti PCS 42P (Cirrus Logic onboard video). The HP has onboard S3 video. I've downloaded the most up to date S3 driver - why cant I get at least 800 x 600?

16068 2001-07-24 20:21:00 go to the setttings tab on the display control panel,

If you have windows 95A, press the 'change display type' button and the type of monitor will be right there in front of you

otherwise, click on the advanced button then click on the monitor tab

Check the monitor is not set to 'standard VGA 640x480'

if it isn't, then it may be a limitation of the video chip

The display is set to the correct driver - I'm coming to the conclusion that its an incompatability between the S3
chip and the monitor type.
