16034 2001-07-24 00:14:00 Hi. When I right click on files in Windows Explorer I get a host of options based on programs I have installed, such as winamp and PSP. I believe these can be deleted by a registry change, but I can't find the right keys at all. Can anyone help please?
Thanks

It is possible to change these associations without having to edit the registry. Open Explorer or My Computer and go to the view menu, select Folder Options then the File Type tab. This allow you to view and edit all existing file associations. Scroll down the list until you find the file type you want to edit. To remove a program association press delete.

16036 2001-07-24 06:07:00 Tristans solution will probably work, but you may find that the remove option is disabled, or that the entries are restored.
If this happens the easiest way to remove them is to look thru the programs options, as if they are nice there will be an option to disable them, eg for winamp goto:
Preferences / File Types

If that fails you can delete them from the registry (after a backup etc)
Look under HKEY_CLASES_ROOT.
