It really depends what you prefer to do. I can't see why it would hurt to leave the computer on all the time on standby when you are not using it. You would also leave it on all the time if you had it set up to act as an answer phone or to receive faxes. But you might not feel comforable or feel the need to leave it on all the time, so just switch it off when you are not using it by choosing 'start' then 'shutdown' then select the shutdown the computer option and click on ok. |

Its really up to your own preference but leaving it on all the time or most of the time will be better for it than regular cold boots, still if you have power concerns then limiting to 1 switch on/off is often a good compromise. |

There are two schools of thought on this subject with both sides claiming their own beliefs. I would agree with Scott though and say turn it off at night. The Windows operating system should be 'reset' every so often to help with memory leaks, small system bugs etc, so turning the computer off helps to do this. If you are interested in seeing how much system resources you have available, just right click 'My Computer', then left click 'Properties', and left click the 'Performance' tab. Look beside where it says 'System Resources?, and it will show how much is Free (available). Over time, if the computer is left on you will probably notice this amount dropping due to memory leaks. Caused by some programs not completely releasing their hold of memory after being shut down. Hope this helps you sleep easy! :-) |
