1254226 2012-01-15 01:06:00 Someone bought a lemon tree. The little ones - mayur I think they are called. They have bought 2 other lemon tree in the past but they died. So need advice on how to maintain them :D Is the just the same as rich compost with manure ....

the gardengrow.co.nz site does not list lemon trees.

1254227 2012-01-15 01:12:00 Piss on it regularly :) fred_fish (15241)
1254228 2012-01-15 01:14:00 They like to be sprayed with Zinc and Copper and a feed of Sulphate of Potash once or twice a year. They like lots of sun but don't like a windy place. I never use rich compost on my tree, its just in the lousy pumice soil of Taupo. Had a bumper crop of lemons last Spring!

1254229 2012-01-15 01:15:00 Lol, yeah that supposedly makes them sweeter. Or more simply, a slightly alkaline soil reduces the acid content of the lemon.

I had one, ignored it completely and it produced more lemons than I could ever use even though it was only a small tree. Plants that need maintenance don't survive on my property.

1254230 2012-01-15 01:32:00 We've got one that is constantly loaded all year round, more than we can use, so friends & neighbors get supplied too.
It's tucked in the front corner of the house, in the sun out of the wind, but it was here before we were so no tips on how to get them started sorry.

1254231 2012-01-15 01:54:00 Out of cold winds, good drainage & water regularly until established. Simple Arnie (6624)
1254232 2012-01-15 02:10:00 They don't like frost. Or snow.
They don't like lime.

We feed ours compost and it's had some citrus fertiliser since we moved here -poor thing was neglected and starving and looking very sad. Water with long soaks when dry, but don't waterlog it.

I mulch around it now - keep it away from the trunk.
Don't prune too much.
