1253794 2012-01-13 20:16:00 It didn't actually say he was mowing, it just says he was filling it up.

Maybe he fills it up in the kitchen?

1253795 2012-01-13 20:18:00 He was seen running from the house yelling fire fire....

So yeah, it sounds like he was filling the mower inside the house.

1253797 2012-01-14 01:16:00 Yeah Idiotic but being stupid doesn't mean you deserve to get burnt, come on guys. Maybe if he was an arsonist or serial killer he might desrve it, what you deserve for smoking while using petrol is a clout around the ears and a good talking to.

I spent about 6 months pumping gas between real Jobs, it's unbelievable the amount of times I had to ask someone not to smoke on the forecourt, 1 girl even demonstrated multi-tasking by smoking with one hand, pumping gas with the other, and chatting to her friend.
Then when you ask them to put it out they treat you like the anti-christ asking for their first-born child, excuse me for not wanting to die.

You can also ignite petrol fumes by static electricity so put that plastic petrol container on the ground first and don't get back into your car while filling up (getting in and out generates static, earthing the container prevents arcing to the pump nozzle).
So question, how many of you ignore those two tips, think you know better, or just went bugger I didn't know that?

This clown made a choice to smoke. Do you think the clown will give up smoking now? Nope he wont. As soon as he can move out of his hospital bed he will go outside for a smoke. We dont need to feel sorry for people who smoke and get burnt.

1253800 2012-01-14 19:41:00 Ah:

"As he's run inside, with the cigarette in his mouth and the petrol container in the other hand, he's tripped and fallen inside the house and the petrol has spilt and has ignited when the cigarette fell from his mouth."

Didn't think you could set yourself on fire from filling a mower - even with a cigarette in your mouth. You'd have to have it on you.

Husband spilt petrol filling ours once - not using a funnel - and then when he started it, the spark lit the mower. Lucky he was standing next to the pool, so no lasting damage to mower.

He sure didn't catch fire himself though.

1253801 2012-01-15 08:31:00 A glowing cigarette will not ignite petrol, but can ignite the fumes. Outdoors with plenty of ventilation the cigarette would be unlikely to ignite the fumes. Indoors the fumes would build up and ignite and form a fireball which would burn the idiot. Static (a spark) is far more likely to ignite the fuel. In some very hot countries anti static cables are provided to avoid static from the car jumping to the pump hose. mzee (3324)
