1276327 2012-05-20 06:54:00 Could be the videocard. Have you got another card? Have you tried another monitor? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1276328 2012-05-20 08:45:00 I'm running Linux on same computer ianhnz (4263)
1276329 2012-05-20 08:51:00 Could be the drivers, if its a nvidia video card. Does it boot so far then go black? Or does it go black straight after the post screen?? Since it works in Linux, did you install the extra ram? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Nope, just goes through the bios and then stops.

Or does it go black straight after the post screen??
No, just stays there.

Since it works in Linux, did you install the extra ram?
It's got a 1Gb ram, Linux works well

1276331 2012-05-29 22:01:00 Hi, again.
Computer still crashing and bring up a Ntldr erroe, saying to hit Ctrl, Alt and delete, which does nothing.

I have done a search and, I'm afraid, most of the so called fixes are beyond me.

Some say to download a program and that'll fix it.

Um, no thanks.

I did the sfc/scannow and see what that does.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try, please?

We are both unwell and on Invalids, so just don't have the readies to go and buy a new one.

Thank you, for listening,

Ian

1276332 2012-05-30 05:24:00 Do you have the windows disk that came with your computer? If so do a clean reinstall. stratex5 (16685)
1276333 2012-05-30 07:08:00 Yep.

In the last month I have done, at least, 4 format reinstalls.

Normally they run okay, for a few days and then crash.

I have a 500 GB hard drive and when it was installed the guy made up 5 partitions, after doing a reformat I had 1.

Not sure if my XP disk is faulty, but I have installed XP heaps of times, over the last 5 years or so.

1276334 2012-05-30 07:09:00 Is this the error? (support.microsoft.com). Or try one of these (pcsupport.about.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)

Hey Speedy.

It comes up, with a black screen and says, Ntldr error, press ctrl, etc and I've read those, but don't make a lot of sense really.

Happened heaps of times.
