I quite like the Japanese procedure for execution. The filthy scum crook does not know the day of execution they just pitch up at his cell and hang him long drop method. They then ring the family and tell them to pick up the body. It works for them they have a very low murder rate. I am not as arrogant to think we couldnt learn from the Japs. |

United States has a murder rate over twice that of New Zealand. Japan executes about three people a year on average, generally for multiple murders. Are you suggesting that there is a deterence effect with the death penalty? All the research appears to be against you. Example www.deathpenaltyinfo.org Note the conclusion that the death penalty likely increases the murder rate. Pretty consistent finding across many studies so hardly picking one to suit my case. And look at the stats on wikipedia - many countries with low murder rates don't have the death penalty and lo and behold New Zealand is one of those countries. |
