1254548 2012-01-16 19:58:00 It's time to upgrade my 15-year-old CRT TV and I am looking at the following options:

1. Panasonic TH-L32E30 (www.magnessbenrow.co.nz)
2. Sony Bravia KDL32EX20 (www.magnessbenrow.co.nz)

The sales rep recommended the Panasonic model because:
1. Sony has quite bad reputation in after sales service; and, failure rate is quite high.
2. Panasonic has excellent after-sales service and very low failure rate.

All views and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Edit: they are all wireless ready, can I use any USB wireless adapter to connect to my wireless home network?

1254549 2012-01-16 20:08:00 Sounds to me like the sales person gets paid on a commission basis.

I'd go for the Sony.

I've had a Sony Bravia for two years and have experienced no issues what-so-ever :)

1254550 2012-01-16 20:55:00 My Sony Bravia developed a colour line down the side of the screen. I gave it to my daughter and bought a Panasonic, I feel that I should have bought a Sony Bravia instead as I felt more at home with it and its features compared to the Panasonic - just a personal thing, Bryan (147)

That's a common problem (either horizontal or vertial or both) with Sony Bravia, according to that sales rep.

1254553 2012-01-16 21:25:00 I see that Farmers have specific wireless USB adaptors for each brand.

My Samsung had to have the Samsung Wireless adaptor ...cost $199 (bas***ds)

Was it still under warranty and did you get it fix? How's their service?

Bollocks. Both are excellent brands and there is no issue with bad service.

1254556 2012-01-16 22:13:00 My unprofessional opinion would be the Sony. We have several Sony TV's including the Bravia and have never had a issue with them at either of our locations. But we have had issue's with Panasonic DVD players giving up the ghost early in the game though whether that should reflect badly on Panasonic TV's is up to you.

Though recently we went to replace our one of our earthquake damaged TV's and the sales rep at one store was hell bent on trying to get us to buy LG arguing that it was the choice of the masses and better this and that.

Suppose all sale reps and / or stores have there favourites which they try and off load.

1254557 2012-01-16 22:18:00 Sony was out of warranty. To repair the screen would have cost as much as the TV - so they say! Daughter needed a TV and was prepared to take the Sony warts and all. Probably will last forever. Bryan (147)
