16311 2001-07-31 06:17:00 Before installin a new programme or before running Defrag I use the Control/Alt/Delete function to close all the programmes which are running except Explorer and Systray. In my case there are 11 programmes to close. Is there a shortcut to close them all at one go instead of individually? Guest (0)
16312 2001-07-31 07:05:00 for defrag use something like powerdefrag which reboots your comp into safemode and runs defrag for you.

its not a good idea to turn off your virus checker and firewall (and third party uninstaller) when installing a program just in case they have a virus/trojen. except for a few apps which tell you to turn off virus checkers.
basicly unless its a totally unwanted app (which you shouldn't have in sartup or u should close it by the program itself) why shut any others down with the 3 button salute?

16313 2001-07-31 09:00:00 You could try 'End It All' This is a program that when activated, lists all your running applications, with a description of each. You can press a button and it will close any you want in one go. Further, you can elect to protect some so they do not close. It closes the programs 'nicely', so that your system wont crash.
