16237 2001-07-30 01:51:00 Hi there
First my apologies if this gets posted twice but the first one doesn't seem to have come through.
I am having trouble with a Toshiba laptop. (P3 600) or to be more exact the DVD CD drive.
When placing any CD in the drive the following message comes up:
'd:\Is not accessible. This device is not ready'
Can any one tell me the solution to this problem??
Thanking you in advance

Megan

16238 2001-07-30 06:44:00 My first guess would be a scratched / dirty cd, or a dirty cd lens.
Both, you can get a lens cleaner for ~$20, these help a lot also if it is taking a long time to read the disk.

You could also check if DMA mode is truned on, as this can make cd drives immitate paperweights.
goto system control panel, device manager, CDROM, click on the name of your cdrive, goto settings tab, and turn off dma.
But it is more likely that is is a dirty lens as many laptop drives eject the laser with the tray.

16239 2001-08-04 00:25:00 With a laptop cd drive you dont need a lens cleaner because, as was stated, the lens ejects with the tray, all you need to do is to wipe the laser lens carefully with a cotton bud or clean tissue.
If this fails to cure the problem then its laser adjustment time, which I happen to be able to do ands am quite successful at.
