| 16401 | 2001-08-03 09:03:00 | I have just reinstalled my software and now when I open Explorer my modem dials, connects, then immediately disconnects again. Can anyone please help me to 'keep connected'!! Thanks |

A lot of software has to be set up correctly for your internet connection to work, including your modem. To see if the device driver has a problem, go into Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager, hit the '+' box beside 'Modems' and look for an exclamation mark '!' in a yellow blob. This would indicate attention needed, which would be good as you would then know where the problem is, ie the modem/driver. Also try Start/Settings/Control Panel/Modems/Diagnostics and select the COM port associated with your modem. Then hit 'More Info' and look to see whether the device driver for the modem matches the identification information which this has fetched from the modem itself. Don't expect everything to be in the same format, but the names and model should be reasonable close. If this does not match, go back to the Device Manager and remove the driver for the modem, then go into 'Add New Hardware' and reinstall the correct modem driver. If this fails, try using the Set-Up for Microsoft Internet Explorer to sort out the TCP/IP, WInSock and other layers that are needed - you can cancel this at the point where is asks for the phone number to dial. Good luck. | Guest (0) | ||
