16773 2001-08-10 05:39:00 How do I install windows 95 on a 486 computer.
I have a boot disk but I don't know how to make the machine recognize the cd rom drive so I can run setup from the CD.

16774 2001-08-10 06:03:00 You will need to get a cdrom driver from the maker of the cdrom drive as there was no standard (eg ATAPI) for the old drives.
If it is a creative, try:
www.creative.com
(I couldn't get any further as their form isn't standard compliant, as showen be validator.w3.org)

If you can't handle installing the drivers, you should be able to copy the cabs etc off the install cd, onto floppys.

Or borrow a new drive for the install, (you will also have to download the win9x drivers for the old drive later).

16776 2001-08-19 16:55:00 I have formatted the drive and booted from a windows 98 boot disk. Now I am at the stage where the computer does recognize the D Drive but I get a message 'CDR101: not ready reading drive D' Guest (0)
