| 16683 | 2001-08-08 04:41:00 | Hi, At my dads work when the client computers start up they have a dialog box that looks very simular for MS Client for Windows network logon (ie User name & password box) but they also have a Domain box (which has the name of the workgroup) I am running a 5 computer network with a Nt3.51 Server computer, and 4 client computers with a mixture of 95 and 98 on them. I wish to be able to share my client drives but use access rights (ie who can access them etc) The only way to change this is to goto Network settings in Win9x and and then on the Client for MS networks properties change the settings to Domain ... and then under Access change something... how do i configure both Win NT and Win9x to use a domain and User level access control???? Is this possible ? Thanks, MArcus |

To use user level access control: Make the NT server a domain controller (this may require a backup and rebuild if the server is currently a member server in a workgroup). Set the clients to be domain members, and select user level access control. When prompted, tell windows that the ACL provider is an NT domain. Create accounts on the NT server, and use them on the clients. Make sure you have a common protocol installed on all computers, eg Netbeui, or TCP/IP if going across a router. |
