17078	2001-08-16 06:10:00	Personally I think most of the speed up apps are a waste of time, especially the ones that have to be running to work. I have tried the windows tweask, eg setting the MTU etc , but they don't make much difference. All I use is opear because it is fast and caches pages better than the other browsers. It also lets me disable images by a toolbar button to speed up slow pages, eg This One.	Guest (0)
17079	2001-08-16 08:42:00	ispeed, it has a free trail (permantly ;-)if u know where ) also see www.speedguide.net they have reg patchs which are very handy. one thing to watch out for is that win98 default settings auto changes the mtu from 576(net) to 1500 when it thinks your are on a lan. so if you fix the mtu to 576 the lan speed will be slow. eg icq file transfer over a lan will go at say 500k/s then slow to 7k/s when windows changes the mtu. a pain i tell u ! you can fix this by setting the mtu to a mid point say 1002 which gives me approx 300k/s without slowing the net to much.
