| 16989 | 2001-08-14 10:29:00 | Recently downloaded and ran Norton AV, which detected JS.Seeker and JS.Seeker.H. Cleaned the latter. But the former is in SB.REG. Symantec says delete it and replace with other registry backups (see C:\Internet Downloads\Software\Norton Anti-Virus\SARC Write-up - JS_Seeker.htm). But the files Symantec talks about don't exist on my system. And SB.REG sounds important - the registry? Anyone got any clues how I deal to this virus WITHOUT deleting SB.REG or... should I delete SB.REG? Appreciate any help! | Guest (0) | ||
| 16990 | 2001-08-14 13:30:00 | .reg files are text files that contain entries that can be put into the registry. If you open one in a text editor you will see that it is just text. I don't know why it was identified as a virus. My only guess would be that it could overwrite existing settings and mess up your system. I can't think of any reason for you not to delete it, but if you want to be cautious, then rename its extension to something else, eg .re~ This will stop it from being run accidentally, and allow you to restore it. PS, I can't open files on your computer (although i'm sure there are a few script kiddies bored enough to try). |
