I am running Win 98 SE with the closedown patch yet more often than not (but not always) my PC hangs on the last windows closedown screen and will not automatically turn off. This frequently happens when I attempt to restart (after loading new applications). On restart operations I have to press the reset to get things going. When it hangs on closedown I again have to press restart and open Windows and then repeat the closedown sequence. Usually this allows a normal closedown and turns the PC off. |

Well you not alone... I've seen this plenty of times. One trick I was taught by HP: goto control panel, multimedia, and tick 'use only preferred devices'. Apparently one of the last things the shutdown does is play an annoying little sound. If you're not hearing this - that's how you fix it. Good Luck. |

Thanx, but unfortunately the 'use only prefered devices' option was already ticked. |
