17242 2001-08-19 23:11:00 As of last week, every email I get from a particular correspondent brings up a virus warning about KakWorm: 'VIRUS FOUND: the fileC:\...emporary internet Files Content IE5\CPUJSTYV\ [header of email].dat is infected with the Wscript.KakWorm.dr.virus'. I stop it, then get the email with a window on top saying that an ActiveX control is unsafe. No attachments are involved. My correspondent's system has been scanned many times for viruses, has been checked by a consultant, and appears to be perfectly clean. I am the only person whose system responds in this way to this person's emails, and my system doesn't respond in this way to anyone else's . I use Norton & Zone Alarm.

What should either of us do next?

17244 2001-08-20 04:52:00 I had the same problem and cured it with a free personal 'inoculateIT' virus checker from www.cai.com. Unfortunately they have just stopped issuing it and have replaced it with a 'pay for' program. The person I received the virus from had used Norton antivirus with no success, but inoculateIT found and deleted it. I can only suggest that you do searches on Kakworm and try some of the many free anti Kak programs available. If you are successful get the virus sender to fix his machine. Guest (0)

Hi - The Kakworm virus makes significant changes to your Autoexec.bat file, and places files in your Windows/System folder - using a known security vulnerability with Outlook Express.

It is easy to remove.

The easiest way, is to go to the following website: www.pchell.com/internet/kakworm.shtml

- have a read of what it is,and what it has done to your system - then page down further, and click on the link which reads KAK CLEANER

This is a kakworm removal execution program, which you should SAVE TO DISK - perhaps your desktop - run it when it installs, - it will the files, and repair your autoexec.bat file too!!

Hope this is of some help - worked for me!

Cheers,

jeff
