| 17187 | 2001-08-18 12:27:00 | I have 2 comps both running windows 98 se, and networked with an ethernet card with cross over cable. It was working fine untill I changed it to windows log on instead of the clients for microsoft network. I changed it to see if network neightbour hood will still work, it doesn't. I can see the 2 comps on the network after a while, but when I try to access my other comp, it just won't go in ...ie u see the eggtimer on the screen but nothing happens. So, I changed it back, and still the same thing happen!!! So I reinstalled every single protocal and service etc...and it still wouldn't go!!! I can play games and have ICS going but just can't share files!! Any help would be greatly apprecaited .... |

Have to selected a protocol as default? - speeds initial connection up Ensure file sharing (at least - also printer sharing if that applies) is selected. I have set static IP addys for my ethernet cards 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Seems to like this better than assigning one each time I boot up. These do not affect your dial up adapters method of assigning IP addresses from your ISP. Assign static IP's for your ethernet cards and ping each other in DOS prompt (ping 192.168.1.2 etc) Also try running net diag in a dos window, which can confirm the puters are communicating. Matt |

| 17191 | 2001-08-19 00:16:00 | Hi Jeff, Every computer I have put a network card in I have done it like this..and everyone of them works. Install the card with the driver supplied. Once installed go to your Network Properties and.. *Change the Primary Network Logon to Windows Logon. *Click on File and Printer Shareing, tick both boxes in there. *Click Add/ double click Protocol/ click Microsoft/ double click on IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol (on the right window) *Click Add/ double click Protocol/ click Microsoft/ double click NetBEUI (as above & scroll down a tad) *Now remove IPX/SPX and NetBEUI from the Dial-up Adapter, you only want those protocols on the LAN Adapter. *Click the Identifictation tab at the top and make sure the Workgroup is Workgroup. Restart. Thats the networked card all sussed. Now open My Computer and right click on your HD/HD's you want to share and click Shareing, in there make sure Shared As is ticked. Dont just use TCP/IP, its too slow, NetBEUI gives that a hurry up and IPX/SPX is one of the better and more common protocols for gamming. I'd be surprised if after doing that it didnt work. Another thing it might be is your password files, Find Files/Folders for *.pwl and delete them all, make sure you remember your passwords they will be recreated after rebooting, useing Windows Logon you wont need a Network Logon. But I'd try installing the Network Card as above first myself. Ken. |
