17149 2001-08-17 22:02:00 Just formatted drive and cant access cd drive to install Win95. Have bootdisk on hand but it doesnt have facilities for accessing the Cd drive. Uninstal doesnt work because of missing files. What's the options? Not sure what the cd rom driver is, so it is hard to make a cd boot disk.
Are there any other options or can you download boot disks from the Internet. Could you use a Win98 boot disk for installing win95

17150 2001-08-18 00:40:00 Hi Peter, yep win98 boot disk will work fine unless you have early 2x creative or panasonic cd-rom . Or you could find something at www.bootdisk.com

PS; pays to make sure you have cd-rom access before you format

17151 2001-08-18 08:40:00 get your standard 95 boot floopy,

put on it CONFIG.SYS & AUTOEXEC.BAT FILES, And related CDROM files, and cdrom lines in the two above files.
like in CONFIG.SYS put this

DEVICE=A:\CDROM\SGIDECD.SYS /D:MSCD000

DEVICE=A:\CDROM\WCD.SYS /D:WP_CDROM

in AUTOEXEC.BAT put this,

PATH a:\sys;a:\cdrom

a:\CDROM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:WP_CDROM /M:20

if you use the above you will have to have a directory
called CDROM and in the files
MSCDEX.EXE, SGIDECD.SYS, WCD.SYS

17152 2001-08-18 09:27:00 Make up your standard windows 95 boot disk

add a directory called 'CDROM'
and put in two files 'AUTOEXE.BAT' & 'CONFIG.SYS'

In the CDROM directory
put in three files, MSCDEX.EXE, SGIDECD.SYS, WCD.SYS.

In AUTOEXE.BAT add in the two lines
PATH a:\sys;a:\cdrom

a:\CDROM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:WP_CDROM /M:20

In CONFIG.SYS add in two lines
DEVICE=A:\CDROM\SGIDECD.SYS /D:MSCD000

DEVICE=A:\CDROM\WCD.SYS /D:WP_CDROM

(you might just need one of SGIDECD.SYS or WCD.SYS)

17154 2001-08-18 09:35:00 Just a note on the /D:NAME, in the above lines. The name can be anything (within reason), but it has to be the same in both autoexec.bat and config.sys

eg:
DEVICE=A:\SGIDECD.SYS /D:MSCD001

and

a:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:20
