17260 2001-08-20 03:08:00 Like it says really, graphics too to an extent. Notice this in sound file (mp3, wma etc) playback, games etc. Specs CMI8738 on board sound, athlon 1133, 128mb, 30gb drive, most up to date drivers etc. Would an actual souncard help? Guest (0)
17261 2001-08-20 04:04:00 While a real sound card will reduce the cpu useage, on such a fast process its probably not the cause. Although it may have old drivers.

First thing to check would be if the HDD has DMA mode turned on. (system control panel , device manager, disk drives, NAME OF HDD, settings, dma. Restart.

For MP3s in winamp (and most others) you can change the size of the buffer, you could try increasing the buffer.

17262 2001-08-21 04:43:00 Cheers, enabled DMA, (why did I disable it) now heaps better but still not perfect. Any further suggestions still welcome... especially as regards graphics slowdown have Geforce 2 mx with 64mb Guest (0)
