| 17380 | 2001-08-22 01:09:00 | I am looking at getting a larger HDD and need to find out how to swap all the files and O/S off my old HDD to new one. I have heard of Ghosting, how do i do this and how does this work or wot other options or software is available, it is just a home PC? | Guest (0) | ||

Then install windows etc on the new one. You could then copy any datas and settings from the old one. As for taking an image, eg with ghost, I think you need the HDDs to be the same size. |

It will copy everything to your new hard drive, you dont even have to partition or format, it will do it for you. If you do this you would also transfer over any crud you've accumulated, so you have to weigh the balance between clean install and copy. Drive Copy can be used as a back up program to regularly copy your HDD to another. It is also a bit faster copying than Ghost and has a better GUI. Ghost will also work between different sizes HDDs. Then there are free programs that often come with new hard drives for copying, but if not, you can get them from the manufacturers web site. |
