17410 2001-08-21 11:56:00 Whenever I try to use the 'Search' function in Internet Explorer 5.5 (next to favourites) my screen gets littered with popup porno banners that I cannot escape from. The only way I can get my screen back is to reboot which is a real pain. So therefore I am no longer able to use the 'Search' because of this inconvenience. I thought that doing a I.E repair might help but can't find this in add/remove prohrams at all. I suspect the banner problem comes from something that has been installed without my knowledge. I have looked in the 'c\windows\downloaded program files' but can't find anything obvious that points to this porno pain! Guest (0)
17411 2001-08-21 12:17:00 First, get all the security patches from windowsupdate, to stop it from happening again. Or prehaps you could look at pr0n from a more secure browser :->.

my guess is it has edited the page used by the search button.

Have a look at:

or

17412 2001-08-21 21:31:00 Thamks for you help B. M but unfortunately the problem still persists. I accessed the registry and sure enough, the URL's for the Search page and Search had been changed which I then changed back to Google.com (the full URL). I then rebooted and reconnected to the Internet and used IE search only to again find the porno banner in the search window. When I click 'New' in the search window I then get those multiple pop up porno windows. Any further ideas on how to resovle this would be appreciated. Thanks. Guest (0)
17413 2001-08-22 00:55:00 I found I.E 5.5 such a pain in the proverbial that I have gone back to 5.0.
At least it doesn't crash all the time and I don't have the problems of the annoying pop-up banners (mind you I never got that far!).
If you'd rather stick with 5.5, there are a couple of good shareware 'pop-up' killers around, that effectively close the pop-up as soon as it starts. You can get these from http://download.cnet.com.
One of them is called Pop-up Killer, the other I think is called Banner Catcher. Both are very good at their job and are also useful when surfing the net.

17414 2001-08-22 01:56:00 Thanks J T. Yes you are correct about the programs that you mentioned, they are good for this purpose and I have since downloaded several programs to stop this anoyance. The problem now is I can't get my browser back to the way it was before I didn't have the 'Search' taken over by this porn leech. Any clues to how this can be done? Thanks in advance. Guest (0)
