| 17320 | 2001-08-20 23:13:00 | Hi, I would like to have my own equipment to access the internet while I am abroad(USA, Europe) in a hotel. I would like to be able to send and receive emails with attachments and print. Would acquiring a notebook and a printer be the best approach? In terms of bulkiness of the equipment and the hassles of setting it up each time for dialling from overseas, are there any other more efficient solutions? Many Thanks |

Physical factors as mentioned previously need to be taken into consideration. There are many great mini printers on the market, so a laptop/printer combo should work great. |

Unless the hotels are excessive in charging for their services I think using them would certainly be the most convenient option. As for totally independent internet access, one ISP account might cover Europe & USA eg AOL, AT&T etc, but not sure about this. Another option is to use intenet cafes to do all your work through. Set up a web based email account & you could email yourself attachments before you leave & grab them when abroad to print or forward etc. You could also set up a website through eg msn communities which has about a 30MB storage cabinet folder for keeping files in. However you would need to consider security measures especially if you are communicating for buisiness purposes. Hushmail is an encrypted web based email account, and you could use PGP for encryping attachment files for email or for storing in the website cabinet mentioned above. Of couse if you are printing hard copies through an intenet cafe you couldn't be sure that copies are't being kept. So unless you really needed hard copies, just copy encryted files to disk & keep them there or copy to a laptop for viewing/editing etc. For me personally if I was going to Europe & the States I think I would leave the computer at home and lie on the beach :-) |
