17313 2001-08-20 22:26:00 As a school we have alot of reference CD's. These are installed on the server and then relevant drive letters mapped from each PC. Running out of drive letters !.
Heard a rumour that it is possible to create a matrix of drive letters, ie AA, BB, etc. Win 98 supports pairs and win 2k supports triplets.
But Technet and anywhere else I've tried has nothing.
Anyone any ideas? Is it true or complete hogwash.

17314 2001-08-21 00:23:00 I have been told that you can't use more than 24 letters (minus two for floppys), it was in reference to windows servers being limited compared to unix in how many drives they can use.

If you have the drive space you could copy the cds to the HDD and use SUBST or FakeCD to create a drive letter when it is needed. Assuming you can get the needed scripts to work right.

have you considered using DFS to unify some of the CDs onto one mapping?
