17310 2001-08-20 12:32:00 First of all I would like to thank Matt S and Tweak'e for the helps and tips, they have provided ....

I have just notice another strange thing that happens on my comps...

Everytime my client comp shuts down, the server comp will freezes with in 20 seconds .....

Any ideas??

Also, does window have some kind of registry key that memorise ur network settings even after u uninstall all the protocals?? Because, as I said before I change the log on to Windows Logon .. and then changed it back, it still doesnt work, and it still won't work even after I install everything again, setting each comp up independently!!! I mean I have set up network before, and usually works without problem, so I m guessing that once u get something wrong windows kinda saved it in registry ....and that 's y it's so hard to fix up ....
Am I right about this?? If not can any one xplain to me wat's going on??

17311 2001-08-21 11:02:00 hi Jeff,

I don't know what's going on with the freezing server, but I guess if they are both 9x boxes the following may help. Try deleting all network components while in safe mode, including the network adapter. Also delete any *.PWL files on the harddrive. If profiles are turned on in the Passwords applet then reboot, if not, then enable them and reboot. When you get a windows logon pop up, type in a username like 'Default' with no password. Once in your NIC should be redetected. Do not reboot until you have been into the Passwords applet and turned off profiles (set to 'all users use the same settings')
Then begin mucking round with protocols etc. I highly recommend you use Netbeui for netbios (windows file and print) and only include TCP/IP for gaming/internet. Netbeui is blisteringly fast on non-routed networks less than 60 nodes. People have posted time and time again on how to disable netbios over TCP/IP so I won't go into it here. Hope this is of some assistance to you.
