17594	2001-08-25 08:12:00	I have a celeron 400 with win95 version2. I have two hard drives. D is a data drive. When booting up it says the A drive fails (40) press F1 to continue. When I do this it comes up with non system disk error, replace disk and press any key to continue. There is no disk in the A Drive. Pressing any key comes up with the same non system disk error. I note that the cable to the A drive has a split in it lengthways. Does this make a difference? I have previously been to the C: prompt to format the drive because of the non system disk error originally that came up occasionally. Now all fails! Any ideas to rectify or is it time for the shop? 17596	2001-08-25 09:05:00	One thing I can think of, is a A: drive first in the boot sequence in bios? If so take it out and make C: first, this may solve the problem.	Guest (0)
17597	2001-08-25 22:07:00	regarding the split in the cable,some floppy cables have a split near the end between 2plugs that actually does a twist, if you have had the cable off for some reason? I suggest you try plugging the cable in using the other plug. good luck Steve	Guest (0)
17598	2001-08-26 16:04:00	Yeah The Cable is suposed to have a split in it, As most motherboards supporet up to 2 floppy drives the split is in the cable to tell the moterboard (BIOS) Which on is the primary floppy (A or B). The First floppy A is always the primary floppy ( Unless Stated in the BIOS Setting Swap floppy Drive). The Plug with the split goes into the floppy drive connector and the oter in the Moterboard. As said above set A as first boot device and also ensure that swap floppy drive is not set to Enabled In The Bios. Also If you have just recently installed The second hard drive Make sure the second drive ( Not The one with Your OS on is set to master Via the jumper on the back of the drive it's self, somewhere near the IDE Port connector, and connected to the secondary IDE Channel port. The CD/DVD-Rom Should be set to Secondary slave Via the same /similar jumper located on the back of the drive it's self. Most Motherboards have support for 2 IDE Channels, Usually one is used for the hard drive and the other is used for the CD/DVD-Rom, Don't have any other devices connected to the Primary master IDE Channel Except your Main hard drive and this should be set to Primary Master. Connect your Second hard drive to the Secondary IDE Port First and then There should be a seperate Connector on the Lead from the second hard drive which goes into the CD/DVD-Rom Bay. Also Note thet the side of the lead with a red stripe or black dots always goes into the connector nearest the Power cable connector. After this has been checked, Go into BIOS setup and go to Auto HD Detection or Similar depending on what BIOS you have. This will Find Primary master, Primary Slave, Secondary Master and Seconday Slave. select yes or no if it finds the right sequence of drives, (It will not recognise the CD/DVD-Rom) If at first it does not find the correct Sequence of drives say it finds the second hard drive first select No to all the Y/N Questions and shut down, Switch the IDE plugs over in the mother board and try again. This will Fix The problem, If not there is something Wrong with The motherboard/Bios or it does not suppoer Dual IDE Channels ( Which I have seen a few of but not many).
