17479 2001-08-23 08:01:00 Some bloody moron keeps sending me a E-mail with *.doc.lnk or a *.doc.Ink file attachment, the problem is, it has a computer virus in it,

Question; Would be better if the Internet provider or is there some other way to delete all E-mails with *.doc.lnk or a *.doc.Ink attachments with it?

And maybe others like *.gif.* and *.jpg.* just to mention a couple

17480 2001-08-23 09:15:00 Sounds like the SirCAM worm. It sends random documents from their computer, if you nosey (or want to know who they are) you can rename the file to a different extention, then open it in a texteditor, eg notepad to see some of whats attached.

I just did a test with Eudora and it works.
I set it to highlight (could be anything else) any messages that had '.doc.lnk' in the body of the message.

So it should work on other programs that support filters. Unfortunatly I don't think you will be able to use the wildcards.

17481 2001-08-23 15:56:00 I should of said, is there a program that would delete these E-mails automatically as they are down loaded off Internet. And would our New Zealand Internet providers look at doing such measures to provide safer E-mail, are there any NZ ISP that do this already? Guest (0)
17482 2001-08-25 10:16:00 There is a option(s) in Outlook Express under either Tools or Message to create mail rules, if this person is not known to you and the same would apply to spam mailers, in the first part which is already ticked by default, where the address is from, now go to the next section and there are a number of options one of which is Delete from server. Saves you time having to download the message. In the first section there are other options which includes attachments so you could set up a rule whereby mail from this address which has attachments is deleted from server. Guest (0)
