1278468 2012-05-30 07:20:00 Best one I can find so far is this.

INTEL CORE I7 3770K IVY BRIDGE 3.50GHZ 8MB 95W LGA1155

Compared to the best Sandy Bridge this seems a little low specced.

Can I get a better Ivy somewhere?

1278469 2012-05-30 07:35:00 Nope that's it, and it's really no better than the 2700K because it doesn't overclock as well. At stock speeds ivy has a small advantage but that's all.
Maybe there are faster models on the way.

1278470 2012-05-30 07:38:00 I don't care about overclocking, never done it and probably never will
I don't want to get a Sandy as that is now old tech and the Ivy has surpassed it in every way except availability of higher end chips.

How frustrating.....

1278471 2012-05-30 07:45:00 In that case don't buy the "K" version because it just adds overclocking support to the normal 3770.

I have a 2500K in my games machine and a 3570K in my other machine, there is no noticeable difference in practice.

1278472 2012-05-30 09:03:00 The 3930 and 3960 are now available overseas, so they won't be far away. The 3960 is ridiculously expensive, though. inphinity (7274)
1278473 2012-05-30 09:30:00 Heres whats on ebay. The price is around $960 + tax to come to nz. So it'll cost about $1200ish(i think:)) ( www.ebay.com) stratex5 (16685)
1278474 2012-05-30 09:34:00 3930K goes is basically toe to toe with the 3960X. Isn't the 3960X sandy bridge anyway? icow (15313)

I think they're both, technically, Sandy Bridge (well, Sandy Bridge E), to be fair, but they are about the best performing desktop CPUs around atm.

1278476 2012-05-30 09:44:00 There are some significant technical enhancements in Ivy Bridge that are not in Sandy Bridge. DeSade (984)

Yeah that's what I wasn't sure on. Both the 3960K and 3930K use the 2011 Sandy-E socket so I wasn't sure at all. Apparently Intel has already got the 2012 socket sorted for early next year. Ivy-E? I assume.
