1254923 2012-01-19 01:59:00 Sounds like he's a typical bandwagon-jumper/flip-flopper to me. A quick Google finds online evidence that he supported Penlink at one stage: waynewalker.co.nz johcar (6283)
1254924 2012-01-19 04:20:00 They have already done that here in Nelson and banned older enclosed fires too, so at your own expense you have to get a new fire if your existing one is older than 1996 and you have to pay for a consent for the new fire gary67 (56)
1254925 2012-01-19 05:13:00 Correct Gary ... but I would love to see a test case go to court to determine whether Councils have the right to impose costs or attempt to stop you from using any fire. My argument would be, that by doing so, any Council would be profiteering from one's right to keep warm, an essential necessity of life, by depriving people of said necessity of life, would this not go against the Bill of Rights.

Anyway ... those north of the Bombay hills are always reminding everyone south of them about the great weather they have ... they shouldn't bloody well need fires ... :D

1254926 2012-01-19 05:29:00 Yeah we only need fires in the dead of night here, never during the day. The reason they forced it on us here is because national and especially our own MP Nick Smith want to force a new road into the port down the railway reserve which will end with more major slips the first time it rains after they have built it. But they cannot put it through until the emissions are lower in that area gary67 (56)

1254929 2012-01-19 08:15:00 I love this bit:

"The report's authors reckoned air pollution was responsible for 737 premature deaths a year, and illness caused by dirty air prompted Aucklanders to take 1.16 million sick days a year."

And what causes more air pollution, I wonder?
26,000 open fires or a couple million cars?
