1255417 2012-01-24 22:02:00 I like the home brew, the only commercial brew
I drink is Monteiths Black, all the rest are pretty
characterless IMHO.

1255418 2012-01-24 22:16:00 The horrible thing about home brewing is all that tax the government misses out on.
It should be going to solo mums, paying crooks for legal aid, Waitangi treaty settlements and other worthwhile stuff.

1255420 2012-01-25 00:58:00 mates want to know why I would bother when beer is so cheap. Doesn't stop them from drinking it though!

Why? The character, the fun of making it, knowing what went into it and the satisfaction of being able to say "I made this"

At least, thats what I think.

I have no idea what beer costs, but husbands 2l bottles cost 81c each to make. So, is that not worth it then? How much is the commercial stuff?

Depends where you buy it Pctek and what brand. Rheineck is cheaper than that

1255423 2012-01-25 03:48:00 Never drunk a home brew that tasted as good as a Dutch made Heineken. Those clogs know how to brew piss. prefect (6291)

I'm the same, the stuff brewed here under license isn't a patch on the proper stuff. I do quite like the NZ Pure, though trying to make out they alone brew a beer without a load of additives in it is a stretch. In all honesty, I much prefer even a dodgy home brew to the feeble Lion Reds and their ilk. Wasn't all plain sailing back in Europe though, the whole 'warm beer in England' thing may have been rubbish, for Lager at least, but there were a few fairly pants beers - Hofmeister springs to mind as do some of those French beers in the little bottles that everyone went through a phase of drinking over there.

1255425 2012-01-25 07:02:00 Does anyone, or has anyone brewed a Radler Beer? (Beer infused with lemon and or Lime)

I thoroughly enjoy Barefoot now renamed Barecove and Monteiths Radler, especially on a hot day.

I have brewed some using Roses Lime Juice cordial and whilst it was perfectly drinkable it wasn’t as good as the commercial product.

It’s a homebrew I’d like to perfect. :D

Hmm.
rheineck beer 330ml cans 12pk
$13.49

Husband doesn't make it for fun, he makes it for budget. So where do you buy beer at 40c per litre then, tell me, cause he'll go buy it.
