1278157 2012-05-29 07:40:00 Im still guessing noone looked at my link:( Yeah I did :D and while there are some good programs there, theres no way I would use all of them or even a fraction of them. Theres no actual advise on what to use, only saying "whats best" and thats debatable on some.

One for example they say Malwarebytes is best free Antimalware - sorry its NOT, there are better ones that detect more. Basically you need more than one antimalware, no one program does it all.

Theres actually a few programs that are not listed. Mind you some also in the wrong hands can be dangerous and cause more problems than they solve. Its a case of knowing what to use in what order and when.

Another "best' "Paragon Backup and Recovery Free " Best ?? doubt it, seen way to many failures with that program.

One thing no one has mentioned -- its all good and well having all these programs BUT some when using can actually cause more problems than cures once run and done a cleanout/removal - so simple question:

If you run a program and it screws the PC further, are you able to actually fix the problem or have the knowledge on how to reverse what you have just done ;)

I looked, some good stuff, but most I'd either not use or already know.

1278159 2012-05-29 07:43:00 I usually make an image before I start playing with other peoples computers just to be safe, at least I can put it back how it was when I got it. I don't do many fixes though maybe one every couple of months gary67 (56)
1278160 2012-05-29 07:52:00 There used to be a sticky thread on PF1 for exactly this purpose. Winston001 (3612)
1278161 2012-05-29 08:00:00 I did look at the link but it was fairly meaningless as others have said without any explanations gary67 (56)
1278162 2012-05-29 09:52:00 Nirsoft have some great tools.... except some AVs decide they're "dodgy" and offer to quarantine them, or just outright delete them (hellloooo Crapafee). Renegade (16270)
1278163 2012-05-29 10:23:00 Yep agree there :D Nirsoft have some damn good software.

The reason most AV's go nuts with them is most Nirsoft programs are digging for hidden/private information of some kind - passwords, logon names etc, the exact actions some malware does.

What do you recommend as better than malwarebytes ?? (I know it doesnt detect everything)
I was also using SpywareDoctor, but its becoming less usefull

Back to topic ..
Bart PE & Vista recovery disk are indispensable. Although both have issues with ACHI
Paragon Disk Copy(bootable CD) : only for its file copy function (not for imaging/cloning)
Maxblast (for cloning HD's)
