2012-01-20 07:26:00 | I think Fujifilm has done investment outside of photography. Re: photography I think there is only so much that could be done. Kodak didn't go full throttle with digital in case it killed film. There are companies like Sony now who were unheard of in the film era selling sensors to Nikon including their SLR products. They make film, even lately with digital they have released a few diff new films out. The group that still use film are large format photographers (fine art photographers). They do film processing machines and digital printing machines for bureaus, paper and ink etc.. then what. I wouldn't say they are doing badly in film, they make excellent professional products but the demand is just not there. I am not sure if they could produce excellent cameras b/c Nikon/Canon/Pentax had better film cameras.

Fujofilm are big in printing plates as well as some of the machinery, and not to forget their are still got something to do ith fijixerox |

2012-01-20 09:31:00 | I had some Kodachrome film which I imported from the states, since some stuff are so $$ here. I had them processed just before the end of 2010 which was the cut of date for processing. Prob since the mid 2000s, NZ no longer processed them, Australia might have did it though and later the one in Switzerland and the one in Japan folded leaving finally just one lab in Kansas USA. Compared to Fuji Velvia they are not as punchy. I recall a video about Kodachrome how some pro's used it and how they said the colors were so vivid. Well Velvia or Kodak's current E100VS slide film are more saturated. I dunno... NZ has become more affordable with digital photography, maybe 20% more than the USA for most stuff - not the high end stuff. But in the film days, most things were easily 50-100% more.

2012-01-20 12:24:00 | I'll tell youse guys this: If you are the owner of a bank and I come in to open an account - take all the cash outta the safe and fly to Brazil . Every time I buy into a company by owning some of their gear, they go lactating protuberances up . I opened an account with Security Pacific - BAM! They got eaten up by Glendale Federal - BAM! they got eaten up by First Federal and then they got killed by Bank Of America . I won't stay in B of A, so I jumped ship to Coast Federal and they got investigated for depositors' fraud and got killed by The Federal Gummermint . Waukesha? Gone too! Wawanesa? Nope - DOA . I'm telling you if I had bought Sony - it'd be gone now too . Bad enough that I own three Kodak AIOs and another 4"x6" Quik-Print unit . Want me to invest in PC World? can I recommend investment in Iran :)

2012-01-21 03:01:00 | Fujofilm are big in printing plates as well as some of the machinery, and not to forget their are still got something to do ith fijixerox Yep but that's less photography stuff. I think Fuji's own dye sublimation printers (that produces photo lab quality) for the amateur/pro are just under the Fuji brand. Kodak could have gone outside of photography - just one of the options I guess. They didn't want to go too deep with digital sensors. They already did film, paper, chemicals (darkroom), digital printing stuff. They weren't "the" leaders in cameras. If they wanted to remain in photography, I cannot think of what else they could have done. If you look at the photo film industry. In NZ, good photo film can cost up to $40 a roll. Developing (slides) can be up to $40 per roll. No wonder people don't use the stuff here, the few that I know import them from the states like me. Nikon does not manufacture anymore film cameras. If you asked a store here, if they can get the F6, their top model, well, arguably Nikon has not released a press statement that it has been discontinued. They have said they have discontinued all the other models though. Every NZ store will say that they cannot order the F6 from their supplier. You also cannot get any film scanners from Minolta, Canon, Nikon other than the crummy flatbed scanners. The few are available but they cost near 5 digit - Hasselblad/Imacons that might be cheapest. Kodak's iconic carousel projectors are long gone. If you look on Trademe, some schools are throwing them out at $10 as pick up only. Around the country there might be 3 or 4 labs in total that process slides.
