1278347 2012-05-30 01:04:00 Recently, whilst in Aus. I purchased a mbeat portable USB turntable.

Now according to the instructions it is supposed to be automatically recognised as soon as it is plugged in with no need for any Driver installation.

Nothing abnormal so far.

However, three XP machines (two desk-top’s and a laptop) fail to recognise it at all. No dings, no messages, nothing. But, the wife’s Win7 Laptop recognises it no problem.

Now I have almost every imaginable USB device running on these XP machines from time to time and this is the first time a device hasn’t been recognised at all on all of them.

So, the question is, has anybody else encountered this type of problem and more importantly how did you overcome it?

:thanks

Yes, but I'll try it in a hub as there is a Hub on one machine. I'll get back on that one.

1278350 2012-05-30 01:54:00 Is SP3 on all of the XP computers? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1278351 2012-05-30 01:59:00 Is it powered independently or it is relying on the USB for power? AvonBill (11358)
1278352 2012-05-30 02:10:00 And are you plugging it to a port directly attached to the mobo as oppoed to one conencted to a header

1278353 2012-05-30 02:14:00 Something like this? www.mbeat.com.au

Looks like it should work in XP if so, have you looked under audio devices in control panel to see if it shows up as a sound device?

1278354 2012-05-30 04:13:00 Bit of a trick this one. :D

Starting at the top:

It works fine through the machine with a hub even thought the hub is not powered. It doesn’t work directly to a spare MB socket on the same machine.

No, SP2 on all computers that don’t work (except through a hub on one as above)

Yes direct connection to MB (I’ve been caught with that one before) ;)

It can be battery powered, but in this case it is USB powered.

No THIS (www.mbeat.com.au) one, but nothing shows up anywhere when not connected to a Hub. Shows up as Audio Device when connected to Hub.

It has to be power doesn’t it, although why it works through a non-powered hub and not directly eludes me.

As a matter of interest, the said hub is capable of being powered, but isn’t because when it is it somehow back feeds into the computer when the computer’s turned off and the HDD light stays on.

Yes I know, another WTF moment. :D
