1254935 2012-01-19 06:51:00 There is life in the Senate, not terrifically intelligent life, but some signs are promising.

Who woulda thought it?

1254936 2012-01-19 07:10:00 We are finally seeing signs of a direct democracy and its influence.

Now, the wicked men shall come and try, ever harder, to take it away from us.

Then people will resist harder.

Or we'll just end up with a separate anonymous internet they can't censor.

Oh wait, that pretty much already exists.

1254938 2012-01-19 08:36:00 As long as there are companies providing internet access through state owned (or part owned) telecoms infrastructure, then it's going to be able to be controlled. Unfortunately. pine-o-cleen (2955)
1254939 2012-01-19 09:21:00 Then people will resist harder.

People will resist for the moment, but eventually it will be when there is apparent safety and security and people turn a blind eye that we will all end up at square one.

How do you figure?
Do you have an alternative to the Southern Cross cable?

Anonymity on the internet is a logical fallacy. Everything can be very easily traced.

The closest thing now is via disposable cell phones.

To those with enough resources and will, there are few barriers to find anyone they want.

1254941 2012-01-20 05:50:00 This TEDTalk is well worth watching if you're interested to know why SOPA and PIPA are so wrong: www.ted.com dea.html

At the end Clay Shirky warns that the media companies, although now rebuffed, will keep trying...

1254942 2012-01-20 06:11:00 Its all just smoke and mirrors.

Gov puts up an uber draconian bill, people complain, gov waters the bill down a bit to appease the great unwashed. Bill passes but we're still left with 95% of the original bill. Public is happy because they thought they just saw democracy in action, gov laughs and rubs their hands because 95% of their draconion bill still got through parliament and got passed into law.

Whos the real winner here?

And don't laugh at that scenario. It happened here last year with the revised 92a bill

The American gov must have finally clicked on what to do.
